Backend Developer - Payments

The Backend Developer will design and build scalable microservices powering PhonePe's core payments infrastructure. This role requires expertise in distributed systems, high-performance computing, and building fault-tolerant systems handling millions of transactions per hour.

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services for payments processing handling 200+ million daily transactions
• Build highly scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Java/Kotlin/Go ensuring sub-100ms response times
• Implement robust error handling, retry mechanisms, and circuit breakers for payment reconciliation and settlement
• Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to deliver end-to-end payment features
• Optimize database queries and caching strategies using MySQL, Redis, and Kafka for real-time processing
• Participate in on-call rotations ensuring 99.99% uptime for critical payment systems

• B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science or related field from premier institution
• Minimum 6 years of hands-on backend development experience with Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python
• Strong expertise in microservices architecture, distributed systems, and RESTful API design
• Experience with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), caching (Redis), and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles
• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency systems at scale
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced startup environment
