Principal ML Engineer - NLP

The Principal ML Engineer will lead the development and deployment of advanced NLP and ML systems for fraud detection, credit risk assessment, and intelligent payment routing. This role involves architecting scalable ML pipelines, mentoring engineers, and driving innovation in applying AI to solve complex fintech challenges.

• Design and implement production-grade NLP models for transaction fraud detection, analyzing millions of payment events daily
• Build and optimize ML systems for credit risk scoring, merchant categorization, and customer support automation
• Architect end-to-end ML pipelines including data processing, feature engineering, model training, A/B testing, and deployment
• Lead technical strategy for the ML team, establishing best practices for model development, monitoring, and governance
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to identify ML opportunities and translate requirements into technical solutions
• Mentor junior ML engineers and data scientists, conducting code reviews and promoting ML engineering excellence

• 7-10 years of experience in machine learning engineering with at least 4 years focused on NLP or deep learning
• Strong expertise in transformer models, BERT, GPT architectures, and modern NLP techniques for classification and entity recognition
• Proven track record of deploying ML models at scale handling high-throughput, low-latency production systems
• Proficiency in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, MLflow, and cloud ML platforms (AWS SageMaker, GCP Vertex AI, or Azure ML)
• Experience with big data technologies like Spark, Kafka, and distributed computing frameworks
• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field from premier institutions
• Strong understanding of MLOps, model monitoring, feature stores, and ML system design patterns
