Principal Machine Learning Engineer

We seek a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to drive innovation in AI-powered features across Microsoft products. You will lead the development of scalable ML systems, work on foundational AI research, and mentor engineering teams. • Design and develop production-grade machine learning systems and models serving millions of users globally
• Lead research initiatives in deep learning, NLP, computer vision, or reinforcement learning domains
• Architect scalable ML infrastructure and pipelines on Azure cloud platform
• Collaborate with product teams to identify AI opportunities and translate requirements into technical solutions
• Establish ML best practices, model governance, and responsible AI principles across engineering teams
• Mentor senior engineers and ML scientists while contributing to Microsoft's AI research community

• 9+ years of experience in machine learning engineering with proven track record of shipping ML products
• Deep expertise in machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar platforms
• Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud ML services (Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, or GCP AI)
• PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related field preferred
• Published research in top-tier conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ACL) is a strong plus
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in collaborative, cross-functional environments
